Athletes receive awards at End of Season Meeting

Congratulations

Concord Crew has awarded their 1st Annual Concord Crew Bert Whittemore scholarship to four-year varsity rower Johanna Van Fleet of Concord . The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who demonstrates commitment to the values and skills learned with Concord Crew to better themselves, their team, and their community.

The scholarship is named for Bert Whittemore. Whittemore helped start the youth program in Concord, and was a steadfast advisor, supporter and ambassador, according to Steve Gurney, president of the organization.  His passion for crew stemmed from his college rowing experience at Dartmouth College, and his feeling that the sport builds character and friendships as well as muscles. The award is given by Susan Whittemore Chrabolowski and Concord Crew to further his Bert’s legacy.

Van Fleet was a member of the National Honor Society and a team captain for the Concord High School Nordic ski team as well as for Concord Crew. She is attending Mount Holyoke College in the fall.

Jay Printzlau Award

Congratulations also to Nick Demetriou and Kalli Maurice on being awarded the Jay Printzlau award. Given annually to one or two Concord Crew rowers or coxswains who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to core Concord Crew themes of character, team, effort and improvement. Coach Jay set and enhanced a foundation of these values during his long tenure at Concord Crew. Qualifying athletes to have participated on team for at least 4 seasons

Rocks and Hammers

Additional congratulations go to Matt Ferrarone, Jess Willey, Gregg Prince-Ratliff and Rebecca Klements as this years Rock recipients.

A new award this year, "The Hammer", was awarded to Elise Lowne and London Warburton.

Congratulations to all our athletes and coaches on another successful season of Concord Crew.
